What is the core difference between PC Class and CB Class Automatic Transfer Switches?
A PC Class ATS is a dedicated transfer device that makes, carries, and withstands fault currents without an integrated tripping release. It relies on upstream circuit protection (such as an MCCB or fuse), delivering higher electrical endurance, faster transfer speed (<50ms), and compact installation. A CB Class ATS incorporates overcurrent releases, acting as both an automatic transfer switch and an overcurrent protective breaker. Why is a 4-pole ATS required instead of a 3-pole ATS for three-phase generator installations?
